Union County nonprofits land Clay Electric grants

The Clay Electric Foundation said it awarded two grants totaling $30,000 to organizations focused on helping Union County residents.

The Fellowship Baptist Food Pantry received $10,000. The Raiford-based church will use the money to add cooling units and shelves to its food bank.

The Foundation for Rural Educational Excellence, which serves Putnam and Alachua counties, in addition to Union also received $15,000 for its work in enhancing the academic success and career opportunities for rural students in northeast Florida. The nonprofit will use the grant proceeds to support local school district employees seeking to complete academic degrees and become teachers.

The Clay Electric Foundation awarded an additional $105,000 to nine more nonprofits throughout its 14-county service area during its September grant cycle.
