Union County High School’s Danny Thornton participated in the Class 1A wrestling state finals at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, getting a win in the second round before being eliminated.
Thornton, who wrestles in the 195-pound class, began with a loss to Hernado’s Jayshawn Nantce, who pinned him in 3:58. He bounced back, pinning Gibbs’ Malcolm Woods in 2:23, but then got pinned by Jensen Beach’s Nate Sopotnick in 3:34.
Sopotnick would go on to place third, while Nantce placed sixth.
