Wendell Brown

Wendell Brown, 62, passed away at his home in Lake Butler on Saturday, March 30, 2024. He was born on March 6, 1962, in Starke to the late Artemis Brown and Ruby Mosely Brown. He was a dedicated Lieutenant at Union Correctional Institution for 30 years until his retirement. Known for his love of the outdoors, he found joy in fishing, riding his motorcycle, and embracing all activities that allowed him to be amidst nature. His commitment to his family and career and his passion for his hobbies reflected the determined and kind-hearted person that he was. He was preceded in death by his father; his wife of 30 years, Kimbery Brown, and his beloved dog, Tebow.

He is survived by his mother, Ruby Brown of Lake Butler; daughters, Crystal Rimes and Katherine Benton, both of Lake Butler, and Ashley (Matthew) Eubanks of Milton; grandchildren, Kayley, Lane, Ashlann, Emilee, Kevin, Saydee, John, and Maddux; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Jacobi, Jaylaya, Jaelen, Zaylin, Ryland; siblings, Terry (Rory) Myers, Randall (Dorine) Brown, Rick (Susan) Brown, and Paulette (Eddie) Harden; sister-in-law, Julie King; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A visitation is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 4, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 5, at the funeral home starting at 10 a.m. He will be laid to rest immediately following the funeral at Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Starke.

Jacqueline Meyer

Mrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Marianne Meyer, 76, of Interlachen passed away Sunday, March 30, 2024, at Solaris HealthCare in Palatka. She was born Oct. 5, 1947, in Buffalo, New York, to Kenneth A. and Shirley (Swan) Crocker. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church of Lawtey. She also loved gardening and sewing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Meyer.

She is survived by her sons, Doug (Sheril) Crocker (Sheril) of Interlachen and Troy (Amanda) Sterling of Americus, Georgia. She was lovingly called “Grandma” by Dawn Wilson, Douglas Crocker, Erin Henderson, Sara Sterling, and Cordell Sterling; along with 10 great- grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the staff at Solaris Nursing Home for the excellent care they gave Mrs. Meyer. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Haven Hospice, 6400 St. John’s Ave., Palatka, 32177.

Nancy O’Guin

Nancy O’Guin

Nancy Carolyn O’Guin, 89, of Lake City, formerly of Raiford, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Shands at the University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Raiford and was the daughter of the late James Madison Bradley and Lizzie Mae Treadwell Bradley. She was a registered nurse, earning her Associate’s Degree at the age of 50, and working in the field for a little over 25 years. She retired once, but decided that retirement was not for her, so she returned to work. She was a devout Christian and was a member of Northside Baptist Church of Starke. She and her husband served as Baptist missionaries in Honduras and enjoyed their mission work. In her spare time, she enjoyed RV travel and gardening, loved her horses and was an accomplished barrel racer. She was an avid Jacksonville Jaguars and Florida Gators fan. Her most favorite thing was being a granny to her grandchildren! She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Joseph “Joe” O’Guin; her brothers, Reese, Jack, Jimmy & Leslie Bradley; and her sisters, Rachel Geiger, Nell Dearborn and Bernice Cox.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Judie) O’Guin of Elijay, Georgia and Gary James O’Guin of Kingsley Lake; daughters, Kathy O’Guin Dice of Lake City, and Wendy O’Guin Wilson of Virgina; 10 grandchildren, Astrid (Tylur), Travis, Kaley (Scott), Sarah, Jessica, Dallas (Hailey), Carolyn, Kailyn (Matt), Jagger (Katie) and Brock; and nine great-grandchildren, along with ‘one on the way’ also survive.

A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. at the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Brother Larry Finley officiating. Interment will follow at Kinglsey Lake Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ricky Laverne Parker, 60, of Florahome died at his home on Sunday, March 31, 2024. He was born Aug. 19, 1963, in Warren, Ohio to the late Frank and Josephine (Clark) Parker.

Tammy Wopshall

Tammy Sue Wopshall, 51, passed away unexpectedly in a tragic motor vehicle accident on Monday, March 25, 2024. She was born on Feb. 17, 1973, in Vidalia, Georgia, to her parents, Pete and Clarrissa Wilkerson Hodge. Her bright and bubbly personality endeared her to all who knew her. She had a strong will and a contagious, outgoing nature that could light up any room she entered. She graduated from Union County High School before embarking on her diverse career path. Over the years she held various roles, including working as a CNA, payroll person, and, most recently, as an equipment operator. In her free time, she enjoyed cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, riding dirt roads, shopping, and most of all, spending quality time with her daughters and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Cody Wopshall; and her parents, Pete and Clarrissa Hodge.
She leaves behind a legacy of love that will be deeply missed by her surviving family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Carissa Rehberg of Starke, Samantha (Colten) McAlister of Lake Butler, and Shana (Hunter) Barrett of Middleburg; and her cherished grandchildren, Braxton McAlister, Carver Norris, Brantley Barrett, Emersyn Barrett, and Sophia McAlister. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her siblings, Danny Wilkerson, David Hodge, Sue Ann Page, Teresa Brown, and Pete Hodge; and her special friend, Alan Davis.

Services to honor and celebrate Tammy’s life were held at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 with a visitation followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony.
