Fort White hands LBMS just its 1st loss in baseball

BY CLIFF SMELLEY

Lake Butler Middle School’s baseball team is no longer undefeated after losing 7-4 to visiting Fort White on April 1.

The Tigers (8-1-2) fell behind 4-0 after two innings and trailed 5-0 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kiptyn Shuler was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, followed by Westyn Miller hitting a double. Shuler scored on a passed ball before Miller scored on a ground out by Weston Thompson. Tristan George reached on an error, while Brody Stephenson and Jackson Andersen-Davis both walked. George scored on a Ridge Robinson ground ball before Stephenson scored when Fisher Thomassen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

That was the extent of the scoring for Lake Butler, which had only one hit.

Lake Butler travels to play Keystone Heights on Tuesday, April 2, at 6 p.m. and travels to play Bradford on Thursday, April 4, at 6 p.m.
