Woman killed in head-on crash in Melrose

MELROSE— The Florida Highway Patrol said a 46-year-old woman was killed Saturday morning on State Road 26, near County Road 219A west of Melrose.

According to an FHP report, a 51-year-old man headed east on SR 26 in an SUV crossed the centerline, striking the woman’s car head on. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Windsor, Melrose and Alachua County Fire-Rescue extracted the man from his vehicle, and he was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries.
