UCHS reaches finals at state cheer meet, BHS competes in semifinals

Union County High School had the second-highest score in the semifinals round, which put the Tigers in the finals, where they placed seventh at the Florida High School Association Class 1A state cheerleading meet on Feb. 3 at R.P. Funding Center in Lakeland.

The Tigers, who competed in the medium non-tumbling division, had a raw score of 76.8 in the finals and finished with a final score of 72.8, which factored in four penalty points. Union’ score consisted of three parts: 26.6 in building,  29.1 in cheer and 21.1 in overall.

West Nassau was the champion with a final score of 90.6, followed by Weeki Wachee (85.5), West Shore (83.6), Keys Gate (82.8), Pompano Beach (77.2) and Parker (76.5).

The finals round consisted of seven teams.

In the semifinals round, Union trailed only Pompano Beach. The Tigers had a score of 79.4 (29.1 building, 28.6 cheer, 22.7 overall, 1 penalty point), while Pompano Beach had a score of 79.6.

Bradford was eighth out of 10 teams with a score of 74.2 (28.7 building, 26.6 cheer, 20.9 overall, 2 penalty points).

The Tornadoes finished ahead of Rickards (72.7) and Master Academy (70.3).

Placing third through seventh were Parker (76.8), Newberry, 76.5), Ridgeview (76), Four Corners (75.4) and Interlachen (74.4).
