Union County High School’s volleyball team earned another shot at Branford, defeating visiting Lafayette 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23) in a Region 3-1A semifinal match on Oct. 27.

Stats will be published when they become available.

It was the third win in four matches for Union.

The second seed Tigers (12-12) will now travel to play top seed Branford (23-4) for the championship (and the right to advance to the state semifinals) on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m.

Union is 0-3 against the Buccaneers this season, with the latest loss coming in the District 6 championship match. Branford recorded 3-0 sweeps in each match against the Tigers, winning each of the nine total sets by at least five points.

If the Tigers finally get past the Buccaneers, they will play either Williston or Newberry (the top two seeds in Region 4) on Monday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m. at Polk State College’s Winter Haven Health Center, which will host both state semifinal matches as well as the championship match on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 4 p.m.

The other Nov. 6 state semifinal mathcup will be Baker or Chipley (the top two seeds in Region 1) against Blountstown or Liberty County (the top two seeds in Region 2).
