Union County High School’s volleyball team earned the number-two seed in the Region 3-1A playoffs and will host third seed Lafayette in a semifinal match on Friday, Oct. 27. Game time, as of now, is 7 p.m.

The Tigers (11-12) are coming off a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-18) loss in the District 6 championship match to Branford, which earned the region’s top seed. The Buccaneers (22-3) will play fourth seed Aucilla Christian (13-8).

Union played Lafayette (12-7) once in the regular season, defeating the Hornets 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23).

If the Tigers defeat Lafayette, they’ll play for the Region 3 championship, either traveling to play Branford or hosting Aucilla Christian on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m.

Union’s run to the state semifinals last season began with a 3-1 win over Branford, but the Buccaneers are 3-0 against the Tigers this year, winning each match 3-0. Branford has won each of its nine sets against Union by at least five points.
