Bobby Allen

Bobby Randolph Allen, 79, passed away on Thursday evening, Sept. 15, 2022.  He was born on the FSCW farm to Noah Waldo and Minnie Sayers Allen on Nov. 9, 1942. He was a husband, father, friend, patriot, and amazing aviator. He attended Columbia High School in Lake City and, later, Troy State University at Fort Rucker, Alabama.  He received a B.S. in business, commerce, and business administration. From 1966 to 1977, he was a Captain in the Florida Army National Guard. In 1980, he returned to active duty in the U. S. Army. He was a Chief Warrant Officer, serving two tours in Vietnam, and one tour in Korea.  He had a love and talent for aviation, particularly the Bell UH-1 Iroquois, or Huey, helicopter.  During his time in service, he received the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal and 21 Oak Leaf Clusters, Staff Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and the Australian “Unit Citation for Gallantry.” After his military retirement, he worked for the Florida Lottery and in admissions at Florida State University.  Though he was a humble and modest man who would be the last to tell you, he was an extraordinary person. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Minnie Allen; and grandparents, Henry Allen, Sara Priscilla Barineau, Young K. Sayers, and Roxie Sasser.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Allen; daughter, Amanda (Jeff) Farmer; sister, Dale Allen (Paul, deceased) Moniello; brothers, Wm F. (Bill) (Martha, deceased) Fletcher III, and Delbert Edward (Del) (Dianne) Murray; grandchildren, Wesley, Darla, and Samuel; and many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

He will be interred at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.

Janice Alvarez

 

Janice Alvarez

Janice Elaine Alvarez, 82, of Starke passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville following an extended illness. She was born Aug. 4, 1940, in Raiford to Everett J. and Hester (Foles) Blume.  Prior to retiring, she worked as the Regional Manager for Handyway and Kangaroo Food Stores.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was known for her great cooking.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Stephen Franklin Alvarez Sr.; and her two children, Dana Lynn Alvarez, and Stephen Franklin Alvarez Jr. 

She is survived by her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Meme”, Cole (Amanda) Whitehead, Ashley Alvarez, Gracie Alvarez and Leavy (Melissa) Alvarez; along with great-grandchildren, Shyann, Morgan, Jakob, Justin, Aidan, Jaxon, Alaina, Lauren, Emily, and Olivia, all of Starke.

A graveside service was held Monday, Oct. 3, at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Lake Butler with Rev. Roman Alvarez officiating.

Carolyn Davis

Carolyn Cruger Davis, 71, of Starke, passed on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at the Windsor Health and Rehabilitation Center Starke. A lifelong resident of Bradford County, she attended the local schools of Bradford county. She was of the Christian faith.

She is survived by three sons, Gary Davis, John Davis and Johnny Davis; one daughter: Sharon Davis; brothers, Leon Cruger, David Cruger, Harold Cruger, Benjamin Cruger and Kenneth Cruger; sisters, Kimberly Evan and Stephanie McQueen; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends.

 Visitation will be held for friends on Friday, Oct. 7, at the Carl D. Haile Memorial Chapel/Haile Funeral Home Inc.  from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Clark Cemetery in Starke. Interment will be under the direction of Haile Funeral Home Inc., 802 N. Oak St., Starke, 32091, 904-964-7905.  The Cortege will form at Haile Funeral Home Inc. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 10:30 a.m. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Margaret “Midge” Brown McCrea, 90, of Starke passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, at Windsor Health and Rehabilitation in Starke. She was born May 23, 1932, in Brooker to Henry and Thelma (Thomas) Martin. She was an in-home health caregiver and member of Northwest Baptist Church in Gainesville. She enjoyed traveling and being outdoors, fishing and boating; she was also known as the “Social Butterfly” at the nursing home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill McCrea; and a son in-law, Donald Elder.

Survivors are her children, Carolyn Elder of Kingsley Lake and Doug (Lori) Brown of High Springs; along with a sister, Gayle Tyer of Starke. She was also lovingly called “Grandma from Marco” by her grandchildren, Carl Elder, Jody Durban, Timothy Brown and Andrew Brown; along with great-grandchildren, Enoch, Leah, Issac, Gabriella, Caemyn, Nyxson, Oakland, and Eliza.

Her viewing will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel and funeral services will begin at 12 p.m. with Rev. Tom Tyer officiating. A private interment will be at Hope Cemetery.

Betty McCue

Betty McCue

Betty Irene McCue (Coffey) was born in Flint, Michigan on Oct. 9, 1942, and passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at her home in Florahome. She graduated from Dye High School in Flint, Michigan where she was an exchange editor for the Dye-Jest. Her teacher’s quote in the yearbook stated, “A mild exterior hides a heart of gold.”  After graduating high school, she worked as a lab technician at Flint Osteopathic Hospital of Flint, Michigan for three years and left to raise her children. While raising her children, she attended and graduated from Flint Institute of Barbering with her Michigan State barber’s license in 1978.  She enjoyed teaching and doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren. She was incredibly talented and crafty. She loved knitting, crocheting, drawing/sketching, painting, reading, and going fishing. She adored her poodles so much so that she and the love of her life, Dan, became long-tailed poodle breeders in Florahome. She was preceded in death by her parents, Genevieve L (Hatch) and James H. Coffey; and granddaughter, Raquel Jean Doty-O’Kelly.

She leaves behind her husband of 33 years, Daniel Lee McCue, of Florahome; a sister, Judy Simpson (Coffey) of Branford; and a brother, Terry Coffey of Keystone Heights. Also left behind are her children, Laura Jean Doty of Melrose; Russell Wayne Doty and James “Jimbo” Alan Doty, both of Florahome, and Anthony Lee McCue of Huachuca, Arizona;  grandchildren, Justin Hilts, James Doty-O’Kelly, Colton Doty-O’Kelly, Samantha Jo Doty-O’Kelly, Aaryn Mitchell McElyea, James Thomas Doty, William Alexander Wooden, Jessica Kaitlyn Doty, and Nicholas Wayne Doty; great-grandchildren, Lila Rose, Aiden and Caleb Hilts, Abygail and Alisen Doty-O’Kelly, and Harley Jean Doty; four nephews, Neal, Greg, and Doug Robinson, Christopher Coffey; and niece, Susan Simpson Banks.

Edward Wagner Jr.

Edward Wagner Jr.

Edward James Wagner Jr., 82, of Starke passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, in St. Augustine following an extended illness. He was born March 11, 1940, to the late Edward James and Emma (Vaura) Wagner Sr. He graduated high school in 1958 and was very active in several after-school sports, such as football and basketball, in which he was also the team captain, along with running track. While working on his uncle’s farm during his senior year, he decided to enlist in the National Guard. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in France for the next three years. After his career in the Army, he attended Southern State College in Springfield, South Dakota earning his bachelor’s degree. He began his teaching career in South Dakota and later relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota teaching at the local business school. He then began working for Honeywell in Minneapolis before relocating again, this time to Jacksonville, starting a new career with Standard Sales. Prior to his retirement, he moved to Starke and was employed with the Florida State Prison as their accountant. He was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed all sports, especially if the Gators were involved, and watching NASCAR. He was also known for having his hands in everything, from running a plant nursery to having rental property; he enjoyed being outside working in the yard, on his tractors and mowers. But, most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his beloved fur babies, “Pup pup” and “Sissy.” He was proceeded in death by his brother, Jim Wagner.

He leaves behind the true love of his life of 30 years, Glenda (Bryan) Wagner of Starke; three children, Stephanie (Pat) Gaccetta of Jacksonville, Jason Wagner of Arizona, and Bethany Bryan of Starke; and two stepsons Richard (Heather) Wheeler and Devin Wheeler, all of Starke. Also left behind are two siblings David (Nelda) Wagner of Texas, and Judy (Rod) Smith of Arizona; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Faye Wagner, of Texas.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, 32257.
