Robert Autry

Mr. Robert “Bobby” M. Autry, 75, of Hampton Lake passed away unexpectedly at his home, Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023.  He was born Aug. 5, 1948, in Charleston, South Carolina to Robert L. and Mildred (Davis) Autry. He was 14 years old when his family settled in Starke from Wauchula, where he spent much of his childhood. Following his graduation from BHS in 1966, he began his studies at Santa Fe, UCF, and UF, earning his bachelor’s in economics and pharmacology.  This led to his career as a the “local pharmacist,” serving the Bradford County community for 49 years, working in retail, hospital, and nursing home pharmacies, with the latest being North Florida Pharmacy since 2018.  Bobby was a member of Gainesville Church of God and a Florida Gator fan.  He also enjoyed “counting pills” and “pouring liquids,” but most of all, he loved his grandchildren, spending time with them and anything else “grandchild” related.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his best friend of 39 years, Peter J. Gianas, MD. 

He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Virginia (Massey) Autry of Hampton Lake; children, Cassie (Chad) Reddish, Jim (Angel) Autry, and Scott (Elizabeth) Taylor, all of Starke, and Josh Taylor of Hampton Lake; sister, Susan Moulder of Starke; father and mother-in-law, Wayne and Abbie Massey of Starke.  He was lovingly called “Grandpa” by Emma and Will Reddish and Dylan, Landon, Allie, Annalise, and Adeline Taylor.  Also left behind is fur baby, Dutchess Loulou.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Sampson City Church of God. Eleanor Brown

Mrs. Eleanor Marie Brown, of Kingsley Lake, passed away on Thursday, Oct 8, 2023, at the remarkable age of 103. He was born on Jan. 10, 1920, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Carter Piche’ and Hilda (Frazier) Piche’. After graduating high school, she married Herbert Lester Brown, and they started their family. She was a stay-at-home mother. She was preceded in death by her husband; and their two sons, Gary Brown and Herbert Leslie Brown.

She leaves behind her brother, Carter Piche’ of North Fort Meyers; daughter-in-law, Christina Brown of St. Petersburg; grandchildren, Todd Sellers of Kingsley Lake, Debbie LeGette of Gainesville, Georgia, and Herbert Leslie (Les) Brown IV of St. Petersburg. She also leaves behind many great- and great-great-grandchildren. Per her wishes, there will be no service scheduled.

William D. Cone

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, brother, father and Pepa, William Derryl Cone, who left his earthly home into glory on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at the age of 77. He was born on Sept. 17, 1946, in Monticello. He was a devoted family man. He was a loving and supportive husband, a caring father and a wonderful “Pepa.” His presence was a constant source of comfort, and his wisdom was a guiding light in the lives of those he held dear. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1966 until 1972. He devoted much of his career to Clay Electric Cooperative in Keystone Heights and retired in 2012 after 27 years of service. He had a love for all sports, especially football, and, more specifically, his Seminoles. In his early years, he enjoyed playing golf. He always looked forward to his many vacations with his dear wife and family. Some of his favorite destinations were Alaska, the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains. He was fond of late nights watching Andy Griffith in his Lazy Boy with his ole pal, Barney, eating popcorn and drinking RC Cola. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Calvin Cone Sr.; mother, Willie Beatrice Cone; stepmother, Jan Cone; and brother-in-law, Tom Bass.

His beautiful life will forever be cherished by his devoted wife of 48 years, Selina (McNeese); three children, Amanda (Bobby) Tharp of Grand Island, April (Brian) Snyder of Middleburg, and Ashley (Christopher) Burrell of Hiawassee, Georgia; and seven amazing grandchildren, Isaiah Burrell, Colton Snyder, Noelle Burrell, Dixon and Brantley Snyder, Judah Burrell and Emersyn Tharp. He is survived by his siblings, Edward Calvin (Janice) Cone Jr., Larry Algeo (Connie) Cone, Glenda Cone Bass; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as stepsiblings, Martha Smith, Patricia (Jim) Whitehead and Dama Murphy.

The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at First Assembly of God in Keystone Heights on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at 10 a.m. with a celebration of life service to immediately follow at 11 a.m. Please join us in celebrating the remarkable life of a man who touched our hearts & left an unforgettable mark on our lives. So many lives were forever touched by this amazing man who broke the mold when he entered the world. Derryl will be greatly missed, but we are comforted in knowing we will see him again one day in our Heavenly home. Marion Hinson

Marion Hinson

Marion Franklin Hinson, 82, passed away after a short illness on Monday, Oct. 23, 2023, at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital in Macclenny. He was born on Sept. 10, 1941, in Doctor’s Inlet, to the late Willie and Emma Hinson. He was a truck driver; an adventurer who traversed the open roads with a spirit of independence and freedom. His dedication to his work showcased his strong work ethic and steadfastness. His career as a self-employed truck driver allowed him to experience America and meet people from all walks of life. He was more than just a career-man, he embodied multiple personas that made him unique. Often described as a jokester, he had an uncanny and quick wit. Though stern in his ways, he had a kind heart that overflowed with love for those close to him. Despite his occasional quick temper, he was known for standing his ground when it mattered most. He proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War, displaying bravery and dedication to his country. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests. He was passionate about gardening and was a human farmer’s almanac. He could tell you how and when to plant vegetables that would produce the best crop. Fishing also gave him enjoyment. Sitting by a lake or river hoping to get a bite gave him time to relax his mind. His love for reading scripture and listening to gospel music provided him with spiritual nourishment, offering guidance throughout his life. He also had a passion for old guns and anything related to artillery.
However, above all else, he cherished his family dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Edward and Emma Matilda Boxx Hinson; his wife of 41 years, Lena Hinson; and brothers, John Edward and Howard Lamar Hinson.

He is survived by his two loving daughters, Jessica (Michael) Lea Kelly of Lawtey, and Rebecca (David) Hinson Taylor of Washington, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Brianna (Raheem) Hinson, Clyde Kelly, Delanie Kelly, Ashely (Jason) Kelly, Avalene Taylor, Ryker Taylor, and the soon-to-be, Hinson Taylor; great-granddaughter Annabelle Tripp; brother Jimmie R. (Margaret) Hinson of North Carolina; and numerous extended family members.

To honor his memory a visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 30, at Peoria Cemetery in Orange Park, beginning at 10 a.m. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at 10:30 a.m.

Lester Mitchell

Lester Lee Mitchell, 70, of Starke, died on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2023, at the Clyde E. Lassen Veteran Nursing Home in St. Augustine. He attended the local schools of Bradford County and the local churches of Starke. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr.  Mitchell worked various jobs as a common laborer and served in the United States Army. He had a sister who preceded him in death, Mary Mitchell.

He is survived by his sister, Velma Mitchell (Pastor Ross) Chandler; niece, Coyia Chandler; nephew, Ross Donesian Chandler; God-sister, Valaria Jenkins Pettaway; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and many sorrowing friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, at the Carl and Elaine D. Haile Memorial Chapel/Haile Funeral Home, Inc., 802 N. Oak St., Starke, 32091 904-964-7905, with Min. Mrs. Dorothy Elaine Montgomery, 90, of Keystone Heights died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023. She was a missionary and longtime member of Park of The Palms in Keystone Heights.

Survivors are her brother, Don Shubel; three nieces; and her extended family at Park of The Palms.

Clara Moody

Clara “Dianne” Moody, 79, of Moodyville, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at her home, surrounded by family. She was born May 3, 1944, in Valdosta, Georgia to Ressie and Clara Colson. Her family moved to Starke when her father was stationed at Camp Blanding. She graduated from Bradford County High School in 1962. After graduating, she married the love of her life, Wilbur Mark Moody, and they settled in Moodyville. She worked as a bank teller for many years in Starke. She loved being outside, especially gardening and fishing. The Moodys spent many days on the Santa Fe River, fishing and camping. They were also faithful members at Pine Level Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Mark; her parents; her sister, Margaret Williams; and her son-in-law, Mike Tomlinson.

She is survived by her children, Connie (Bryan) Padgett, Lisa Tomlinson, and Paul Moody Sr.; grandchildren, Kayleigh (Nathan) Buchholtz, Lauren (Josh) Green, Alyssa (Trey) Shannahan, Josh Tomlinson, Paul Moody Jr., Ashlyn (Connard) Rodgers; great-grandchildren, Weston and Paxton Buchholtz, Wyatt and Brantley Green, Mason Padgett, and Asher Rodgers; her sister, Kay (Wilbur) Waters; numerous extended family also survive.

A private family graveside service was held on Wednesday, Oct. 25. A visitation with the family was held on Tuesday, October 24, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home, Lake Butler.

Edward Redding

Edward Leon Redding, 65, of Lake Butler passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at home. He was born May 17, 1958, to the late Howard and Joyce Redding. He has been a lifelong resident of Lake Butler. His compassion and heart for his family and helping others was something to be admired. He truly lived his life making others happy.
Preceding him in death was his daughter, Mandi Redding.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Brandi (Scott) McDowell; grandson Casey McDowell; great-grandson Eastyn, all of Lake Butler; brothers, Freddie (Becky) Redding of Lake Butler and Henry (Jana) Redding of Lulu; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan Catherine Richards, 89, of Starke died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at UF Health Shands in Gainesville.

Survivors are her children; Joanie (Tim Norman) Dugger, Johnny (Tammy) Spencer and Donald (Shirley) Spencer; 13 grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Crosby Lake Cemetery.

Myra Wilkinson

Myra Wilkinson

Mrs. Myra Lynne (Gladden) Wilkinson, 48, of Palatka passed away at her parents’ home on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, following a three-year battle with cancer.  She was born Sept. 22, 1975, in Orange Park and grew up in Jacksonville.  Myra Lynne and her husband, Jeremy, attended Southside Baptist Church.  She was a homemaker, and enjoyed shopping, reading, and collecting old Archie comic books.  Her sister, Holly Marie (Gladden) Ulsch, preceded her in death in 2018. 

Survivors are her husband, Jeremy Wilkinson of Palatka; two children, Riley Wilkinson of Palatka and Paige  (Peter) Haralambopoulos of Keystone Heights; parents, Rusty and Myra Gladden of Keystone Heights; brother, Clark (Connie) Gladden, and their children, Russell, Colt, Gunner, and one on the way, all of High Springs; paternal grandmother, Alice Faye Gladden of Orange Park; and nephews, Samuel, Benjamin, Jonathan, Andrew, Judah, and Israel of Keystone Heights.  She was lovingly called “Grandma Ne-Ne” by her grandchildren, Hollyann and Otis. Also left behind are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that will miss her dearly, including her Aunt Vickie Welch (like a sister).

There was a private viewing for her immediate family. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

Wilma Jean Yeomans, 82, of Starke died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023. in Gainesville.

Survivors are her children, Donna Yeomans Fogarty, Charles (Sue) Yeomans, James (Brenda) Yeomans, and Katrina Yeomans (Steven) Dugger; four grandchildren; and five great- granddaughters.
