MARIETTA, GEORGIA Richard “Daniel” Alvarez, age 76, of Marietta, Georgia passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021. The family will be holding a private celebration of life to honor his memory. Daniel was born in Starke on March 9, 1945. He was a graduate of Bradford High School, class of 1963. Daniel spent most of his life in Cobb County, Georgia where he worked in construction for 30 years prior to his retirement. Daniel loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and especially his wife. He enjoyed fishing, time at the beach, and going on cruises. Daniel was known for talking to everyone who came in his path, creating unforgettable memories and making you laugh by just being himself. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Kathleen Alvarez; and four siblings

Daniel is survived by: his loving wife of 43 years, Marilou Alvarez; children, Jeff (Tammy) Miner, Heather (Bob) Jacobson, Jason (Brandi) Alvarez, Randy Miner; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Owen (Julia) Alvarez, Roman (Betty) Alvarez, Pat (Jerry) Baldwin and several nieces and nephews.

Julian Aviles

MACCLENNY Dr. Julian M. Aviles, age 81, of Macclenny passed away in Orange Park on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Dr. Aviles was born on May 9, 1940 in Holguin, Cuba to the late Julian A. Aviles Cruz and Estrella Aviles Suarez. Dr. Aviles attended medical school in

Spain before beginning his medical career at the Massachusetts State Prison. He later moved to Miami where he worked at the Victoria Hospital.  In 1982, he moved to Raiford where he worked for UCI for over 30 years. Dr. Aviles also worked for Northeast Florida State Hospital up until his passing.  Julian was a dedicated doctor that truly loved his job. He enjoyed dancing, telling jokes, had a magnetic personality and he never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandmother, Sofia Rodriguez.

Survivors include: his brothers, Omar and Danilo Aviles; cousins, Raimundo Aviles, Emilio Ortiz and Carlos Rodriguez.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, Oct. 22, beginning at 6 p.m. at the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel.

June Beinlich

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS June Ann Beinlich, 84, of Keystone Heights died Sunday, October 17, 2021, following a brief illness.  She was born in Corona, New York on June 27, 1937, to John and Helen Grippo. She was a homemaker and a member of the Amvets Post #86 Ladies Auxiliary in Keystone Heights. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Frank Beinlich; and her husband, Frank Beinlich. 

Survivors are: her four children, Robert “Bob” (Jeri Watkins) Beinlich of Keystone Heights, Paul (Yoko) Beinlich of Japan, June A. (Chris) Beinlich of Beverly Hills, and JoAnne F. Beinlich of West Virginia; her brother, John Grippo of New York; and five grandchildren. 

A Celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

LAWTEY Patsy W. Day, 74, of Lawtey died on Friday, September 24, 2021, at St Vincent Medical Center in Middleburg. She was born in Jacksonville on December 5, 1946, to John Warren and Dorothy Matthews Warren. She earned her diploma from the Bradford Votech. She earned her Medical Assistance license through Jones Community College. She worked at Royal American where as the property manager for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Hilda Klein and Annie Rathburn; and one great-granddaughter.

Patsy is survived by: her daughters, Debbie Tootle, Julie (Catina Gallion) Haisten, and Bo Haisten all of Lawtey; brother, Buddy Warren of Keystone Heights; and two grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. at Archie Tanner Memorial Chapel in Starke with Bro. John Frampton officiating.

LAKE BUTLER Isabella “Belle” Doolen Esford of Lake Butler, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 14, 2021.  She was 89 years young. She was born on February 14, 1932, in East Martinsburg, New York to the late David and Ida Merle Axon Doolen.  Isabella married Donald M. Esford, Sr., on July 21, 1951, and had five children. The family left Remsen, New York in 1967 and moved to Hawthorne, and later moved to Lake Butler in 1970.  The Esford’s owned and operated the Union County Bar for 10 years.  After they sold the bar, Ms. Belle went to work for the handy-way in Lake Butler, where she later retired in 2012 after 32 years of service. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Donald M. Esford, Sr., also known as “Red.” Also preceded in death by her son, Sterling M. Esford; brothers, Harvey Snitzler, David (Babe) Doolen, Owen (Noey) Doolen, Morris Doolen, Edward Doolen, Mike Doolen, Pat Doolen, Albert and Bert Doolen (twins), Willard-Paul Doolen; sisters, Ida Merle McMeekin, Ann Genevieve Doolen, and Catherine Pashley.

Isabella is survived by: her children, Donald M. Esford, Jr. of Raiford, Lynn E. (Ray) Taylor of Lake City, Maureen (Reenie) Esford of Worthington Springs, Harold G. (Nancy) Esford, III, of Lawtey; 10 grandchildren, two of whom she raised for eight years (Shannon Esford Thomas and Christina Esford); 20 great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren.  Also siblings, Daisy Ward, Mary LaBumbard, and Asa James Doolen all from New York; many nieces and nephews; and one special brother-in-law, Joe McMeekin of Perry;  special friends, Brenda Hall and Loretta Seay.

The family also wants to Thank Vitas Healthcare Staff for all of the genuine loving care they gave to our Mother.

We are having a Celebration of Life at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler on Tuesday, Oct. 26.  Family visitation is from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. and friends visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.  Also, if anyone would like to share a story or a memory of Ma/Grandma/Ms. Belle, we would love to hear those during this time. Cathy Hall, 71, born Whiteville, North Carolina on September 14, 1950, moved to Florida with her parents. She passed away on Monday, Oct 11, 2021 at home in Keystone Heights with family members at her side. She moved to Keystone Heights in 1986 from Astatula, Florida. Her hobbies were fishing, camping, crocheting, and bingo. She attended Southside Baptist Church in Starke and was a member of Keystone Melrose American Legion post 202 Auxiliary in Keystone Heights where she was past Auxiliary Chaplan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover H. and Francis Edge of Tavares; daughter, Tammy L, Hall of Keystone Heights; sisters, Faye White of Keystone Heights and Wanda Hutchins of Rienzi, Mississippi; and neice, Paula Jones of Rienzi, Mississippi.

She is survived by: her husband of 54 years, Donald Hall of Keystone Heights; her son, Donald Hall Jr. of Keystone Heights; sister, Jackie Bondurant of Keystone Heights; two neices, Kimberley Gann of Cullowhee, North Carolina and Beatrice Allen of Corinth, Mississippi; brother-in-law, Wiley Parker of Keystone Heights; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Service will be held at Southside Baptist Church in Starke at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, the 23rd of Oct. with Pastor A, Alverez officiating. Instead of flowers, donate to St, Judes Children’s Hospital or American Legion Post 202 in her name.

LAKE BUTLER Lloyd Sondee Hedman, 79, of Lake Butler passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 due to COVID complications. He was born August 18, 1942 to his parents, Lloyd Samuel and Svea Hedman in Wisconsin. His family moved to Miami where he grew up and went to school. He is preceded in death by his four older siblings, Connie, Joyce, Shirley, and Carol.

Lloyd married his high school sweetheart, Janice Hedman (Clemons). Together they raised four children, two daughters and two sons, Lynnette (Dale) Allen, Wendy (Bill) Anderson, Lloyd Jr. (Buck) (Tammy) Hedman, and Jonathan (Jon) (Delenna) Hedman. Lloyd and Janice have nine wonderful grandchildren, Adrian, Terry Jr. (Dean), Brittany, Anthony, Jacob, Joshua, Allie, Wade, and Spencer. They also have wonderful great-grandchildren, Tanner, Leighton, Kailynn, Kendall, Clayton, Chayce, Anthony, Asher, and Luca. The family moved to Union County in 1971.  Lloyd started his own paint and body shop where he thrived for years and then went on to drive a school bus for Union County. Lloyd was also Fire Chief of Union County for 25 years.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Lloyd held on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at Victory Assembly of God in Ellisville, Florida.

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS Mrs. Rebecca “Becky” Jean Morse, age 62, of Keystone Heights passed away suddenly Friday, October 15, 2021, in Starke.  She was born February 17, 1959, in Huntington, West Virginia to Charles and Imogene (Evans) Himes. Becky and her husband recently moved to Keystone from Ohio with her son so she could enjoy her family and grandkids more. Becky enjoyed reading her Bible nightly, butterflies, and doing arts and crafts. Most of all, she loved being able to spend time with her family.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother, Roger Himes; and a grandchild.

Becky is survived by: her loving and much devoted husband of 41 years, Mark Morse; and their two children, Jess (Sean) Hall of Keystone Heights and Anthony (Ashley) Morse of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; along with a brother, Chuck (Nola) Himes of Portsmouth, Ohio. She was lovingly called “Mawmaw” by three precious grandchildren, Amaya Hall, Brayden Hall of Florida and Ariel Morse of Mt. Sterling, Ohio. Also left behind are numerous extended family members and friends.

GLEN ST. MARY Mrs. Mattie Lou Ray, age 89, passed away peacefully at her Glen St. Mary home on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Ms. Ray was born January 30, 1932, in Adel, Georgia to the late James Lawrence and Maude McNeil Miley. She has lived most of her life in Florida, primarily in Union and Baker County. She had a good sense of humor and wit about her which helped her keep her sanity while raising 12 children. Mrs. Ray was a wonderful mother, but her grandchildren were her whole world. She was also an avid “yard-saler” and loved cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. Mrs. Ray is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie Ray; children, Charlie, Jr., Bobby, Danny, Johnny, Nancy, Penny, and Cathy; her siblings, Everett Miley, Reba Webb, Dutch Hardy, W.M. Miley, and Ted Milton.

Mrs. Ray is survived by: her children, Diane (Myron) Crews of St. George, Vernell (Jack) Chesser of Moniac, Billy Charles (Carlene) Ray of Okeechobee, Linda (Billy) Raulerson of Moniac, William Ricky Ray of Glen St. Mary, Sandy Ray of Glen St. Mary, and Randy Matthew Ray of Glen St. Mary; over 50 grandchildren and almost 100 great-grandchildren; her brother, James Miley of Lake Mead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service for Mrs. Ray was held on Thursday, Oct. 14, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home. She was laid to rest next to her husband at Fort Call Cemetery immediately following the service.

A life may last just for a moment, but a memory can make that moment last forever. Ms. Terriana Mae Reed was born June 7, 2021, to Terrence “TJ” and Kaila Miller Reed. On Monday, October 11, 2021, the Lord called her home. She was a beautiful baby who was loved by her family. She is preceded in death by her uncle, Torrence Reed; great-grandmother, Betty Sineath; and great-grandfather, Thomas Sineath.

Terriana is survived by: her parents, TJ and Kaila Reed; her siblings, Jayde Miller, Jeremiah Reed, Terron Reed, Jeremiah Miller, Zaiden Miller, K.J. Johnson and E.J. Johnson; grandparents, Gladys Brown, Angela Ramer, and Christopher Ramer; great-grandparents, Deborah Robinson, Unchalee Barber, and David Barber; aunt, Malia Miller; uncle, Demetrious Weldon; and a host of cousins and extended family members.

A Celebration of Terriana’s life will be held on Friday, Oct. 22 at Lake Side Park in Lake Butler beginning at 5 p.m.

Felina Suarez

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS Felina Suarez, 89, of Keystone Heights and Miami died at her home, Sunday, October 17, 2021, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.  She was born June 1, 1932, in Santa Clara, Cuba to the late Ismael and Juanita Llanes.  While living in Cuba, she earned her degree and taught elementary school before moving to Keystone Heights where she was a real-estate agent. 

She is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Gerardo Suarez; and their two children, Gerry Suarez and wife Jackie of Keystone Heights and Carmen Suarez of Miami.  Also left behind is a sister, Margarita Rios of Miami.

There are no scheduled services at this time.

STARKE Mrs. Catherine Clair Vining, age 80, of Starke, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021 in the Haven Hospice, Orange Park, following an extended illness. Mrs. Vining was born in Jacksonville to the late William and Mardie Thrower Lane. She lived in Yulee for many years until relocating to Starke over 20 years ago. Mrs. Vining was a member of the Northside Baptist Church and loved spending time with her family, hunting, and fishing. She is preceded in death by her parents; and son, John Charles Vining.

Mrs. Vining is survived by: her loving husband, David Vining: one son, David L. (Amy) Vining, Jr. of Fernandina Beach: one daughter, Rhoda C. (Damon) Fernandez of Glen St. Mary: two brothers, Marion Lane of Jacksonville and James Lane of Macclenny: six grandchildren, Abby, Emily and Matthew Vining and Brianna, Gydeon and Reagan Fernandez; and one great-grandchild, Lilleigh Doyle.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Vining was held Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Northside Baptist Church. Rev. Larry Finley officiated. Interment followed the funeral service at Brandy Branch Cemetery.

WORTHINGTON SPRINGS Mrs. Lesley Marie Young, age 26, of Worthington Springs, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, after she was involved in a vehicle accident. She was born on February 23, 1995, in Gainesville. Lesley grew up in Brooker and moved to Lake Butler in 2008. She attended Union County High School where she was the band captain and graduated in 2013. After graduation, Lesley began working with McDonald’s where she worked her way up to manager. She loved shopping and being on the go. She wanted to be around others and enjoyed spending time with family and friends but above all, she loved being a mother and spending time with her two children. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Donna Faye Rosa.

Lesley is survived by: her husband of almost 7 years, Andrew Young of Worthington Springs; her children, Grayson and Emilee Young of Worthington Springs; her parents, Shawn and Amy Miller of Worthington Springs; her sister, Haley (Phoenix) Houston of Worthington Springs; brother, Logan Miller of Worthington Springs; her nephews, Jasper Houston, Holton Smith, and Dylan James; grandparents, Robert and Sylvia Fletcher of Brooker and Steve Miller of Fanning Springs; and a host of extended family also survive.

A funeral to honor Lesley’s life was held on Monday, Oct. 18, at Sardis Baptist Church. Her interment follwed at Fort Call Cemetery in Worthington Springs. Services were officiated by Bro. Tim Rose and Bro. Paul O’Steen.
