Ronnie Kirkland

Sadly, with a broken heart, I share that Ronnie L. Kirkland, 72, of Starke passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. I can face tomorrow because of God’s amazing grace and the promise of John 3:16. He and his brother were born in Waycross, Georgia. Their parents, Alvin W. and Ann E. Kirkland, moved to Starke when the boys were quite young. They enjoyed their childhood pals and had many fond memories and stories of going fishing, swimming lessons, playing ball, bouncing and jumping on a trampoline and going shrimping with their family. The two entrepreneurs picked up empty soda bottles and traded them at the corner store for frozen sweet treats. The hard work paid off as they had enough change left to see the matinee at the Florida Twin Theater every Saturday! Even as a youngster, he always had a good work ethic. He would cut grass and do odd jobs around the neighborhood. He worked part-time at Western Auto while attending high school and was so proud when he earned enough to buy a brand-new truck! He graduated from Bradford County High School in 1968. He had several jobs before starting his long career with Hercules, Inc.  He loved his job and was eager to do anything asked of him. He had excellent mentors and listened to their advice. No job was too small. From his humble start as a floor sweeper, he worked his way up to mechanic, welder, shop foreman, camp supervisor and forester. He loved the outdoors and the smell of “lighter stumps.” He was an avid hunter and fisherman until his health became an issue. He also loved to read, especially anything to do with history. During his heart rehabilitation, he taught himself to knit and made beautiful Afghans and lap throws. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Steve.

He leaves his wife of over 42 years, Melody, with many beautiful memories. Always and forever… until we meet again….

Richard Woodington

Richard Woodington

On Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, Richard Alan Woodington, beloved husband and loving father of three children, passed away at the age of 59. He was a graduate of Union County High School in Lake Butler. At the age of 19, he started what would become a nearly 40-year career at Interstate Batteries; first as a local route driver in Gainesville, then at the corporate offices in Dallas, Texas, and, for the last 26 years, as owner of the Interstate Battery Distributorship in Huntsville, Alabama. He was known by most as Alan, or “Woody” by his poker buddies. He loved SEC football, especially the Florida Gators. Every Sunday in the fall, you could catch him watching the Gators with his special visor on, coaching (yelling) from his seat while texting his big brother, Billy. He had an affinity for a good bourbon and playing poker or golf with his buddies, and most recently, his boys. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. While he loved these pastimes, he didn’t get to enjoy them as much because he never missed a chance to spend time with his kids and watch them doing what they love. He never missed a practice, game, school activity or dance competition. He was probably best known for his dry, quick-witted humor, fierce determination, and generous spirit. He seemed to always do the right thing and treated everyone he met the same.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; and their children, Graham (23), JD (20) and Elle (13); his brother, Billy (Pam) Woodington. mother-in-law, Lenora Graham; sister-in-law, Jennifer (Todd) Jagmin; nieces and nephews, Austin (Tara) Woodington, Ashlyn (Will) Burtle, Jimmy Jagmin, Jillian Jagmin and Audyn Woodington.

A funeral service to honor his life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. at Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Lake Butler. Immediately following the funeral service there will be a reception and visitation with the family in the fellowship hall of the church. He will be laid to rest at 4 p.m. at Elzey Chapel Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Archer-Milton Funeral Home, Lake Butler. 386-496-2008.  www.ArcherFuneralHome.com
