Beloved wife, mother, granny, sister, and friend. Betty Long Edwards passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, at her home with her family by her side after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 12, 1933, and was raised, married, and settled in Bradford County. To those who knew her as “Momma,” “Granny,” or “Ms. Betty.” you also knew that her door was always open, and that she would set an extra place at her table for you to share a meal. She had several careers throughout her lifetime, but her true passion was the Brahman cattle industry. She and her husband, J. M., spent decades breeding, raising, and showing award-winning Brahman cattle. In 2017, the Florida State Fair Brahman Show was dedicated to her lifelong legacy of American Brahman. She found joy in working in her garden, crocheting, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, J. M. Edwards; her parents, Eugene and Lois Long: her brothers, Robert and Eugene Long; and her cherished grandson, Justin Edwards.

She is survived by her children, Tom Edwards, Patricia Wainwright (Tom Smith), Sue (Howe) Moredock, Zack Edwards, and Debbie (Tom) Kavanaugh; her grandchildren, Shannon (Clay) Whitaker, Drew (Kara) Wainwright, Denyse Edwards, Lindsey (Jimmy) Williams, Matthew Hull, Adam (Laura) Wainwright, Allison (Tatum) Davis, Zachary Hull, and Taylor Hull; 17 great-grandchildren (plus one more on the way); one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Martha Epps (Shawna and Shae); and lifetime friend, Helen Crosby.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Prevatt Cemetery.

James “Jim” Edward Piper, 95, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022. He was a longtime resident of Keystone Heights. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Carl and Adeline (Fox) Piper.

Myra Roberts

Myra Lynn Roberts, 52, of Brooker died at her home on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Hodge.

She is survived by her father, Irving Hodge of Brooker; sisters, Rhonda (Gary) Wolf of Interlachen, and Karen (Charles) Williams of Starke; and her brother, Billy Hodge of Brooker.

A celebration of life will be set at a later date.

Helen Ruth Moody Wright Wells Stewart, 94, of Lake City and formerly a longtime resident of Starke, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2022, at Suwannee Valley Hospice in Lake City. She was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Bradford County to John Charles and Allie (Griffis) Moody. Prior to retiring, she was employed for 33 years as a seamstress for Starke Uniform Company. She was a longtime member of the Starke Church of God before moving her membership to Evangel Church of God in Lake City 11 years ago. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, quilting, and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, “J. B.” Wright, Bill Wells, and Johnnie Stewart; brothers, Leonard Moody, Jesse Moody, Raymond Moody, Charles Moody, and Fred Wimpy; and sisters. Ann Goodge, Clara Leroy, Ira Cowart, and Allie Mae McKinney; along with stepchildren, Benny Wells, Victor Wells, and Betty David.

She is survived by four daughters, Ruth (Joey) Johnson of Lake City, Linda (Bert) Williams of Brooker, Donna Rowell of Worthington Springs, and Dianne (Stan) Miller of Starke. She was lovingly called “Granny” by six grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren and nine great- great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov 21, with Pastor Jeff Moody officiating. Interment followed at Kingsley Lake Cemetery.
