Constantinos Kopelousos

Constantinos Kopelousos

Constantinos “Gus” Kopelousos, died peacefully at home in Colorado, surrounded by his daughters and grandchildren, including his four-legged loved ones. Papou (grandfather in Greek) touched the lives of everyone he met and brightened a room wherever he went, making each and every person feel special. He truly embodied the Greek word “philotomo,” showing empathy, compassion, and generosity without expecting anything in return and taught the meaning of this by way of example to his two daughters and his grandchildren. His love of family and his Greek heritage were evident in everything he did. He made it a priority to always be available to help friends and family in times of need, and his contagious laugh could turn any bad day to good in an instant. He had a fondness for traveling the world, but two of his most treasured places were Kingsley Lake and Aspen, Colorado. They were home to him in every sense of the word. He was raised by George and Stella Kopelousos and lived his childhood and most of his life in Starke. Being raised by Greek immigrant parents, he knew the meaning of hard work, and after graduating from the University of Tampa, returned to do what every “good” Greek son would do and took over the family business, the Garden Restaurant. He married the love of his life, Maria Costan, from Charlottesville, Virginia and moved her to Kingsley Lake, where they raised two daughters, Elizabeth and Stephanie. His proudest accomplishment in his life was raising two successful, independent and caring daughters who he adored immensely until the very end.

He is survived by his brother and best friend, John Kopelousos and spouse Ann; his daughters, Elizabeth Kopelousos Slossberg and husband Jeff W. Posey; Stephanie Kopelousos; sisters-in-law, Dimitra Costan and Beverly Catlin; and Todd Slossberg. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Sydney, Nicholas, Benjamin, Hayden, Isabella, Dillon, Giuseppe, Jeremy and Hunter; as well as his adored nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In his name, he would want everyone to practice kindness and to make someone smile every day! In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity that meant so much to him: St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 12760 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, Fl. 32246, Stjohnthedivine.com  (click donate today), the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Cancer Research, PO Box 4486, Houston,  TX 77210-4486, mdanderson.org/gifts; or the Bradford County Education Foundation, 501 W. Washington St., Starke, FL, 32091, bceducationfoundation.org

Services were held Wednesday, May 31, in Jacksonville. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery.

James W. Martin

James W. Martin

I want to start off by saying that Jimmy loved our Father in heaven, God Almighty, and his Son, Jesus Christ! James Wesley Martin, 67, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in Titusville. He was a military veteran, with rank as a sergeant in the United States Army, earning several accommodations during his time of service. He loved being “Sergeant Martin” and shared the stories and adventures during his military career. After being honorably discharged from the US Army, he then started a new chapter in his life, where he went on to do many things, but he settled with becoming a mechanical glazer. However, he finally found his calling and went into the world of art. This was his true passion! He had a unique style and was considered a mixed- media artist, creating well over 150 pieces during his career. He had art hanging in several galleries. He loved all music (except rap) and classic movies. You can’t cover his life in such a small amount of words. He was a once-in-a-lifetime type of personality and, if you had ever met him, you’d have heard about one of his adventures or would leave with a story to tell about him. We all loved “Unk Jim,” “James,” “Jimmy,” “Jimbo” and “Kuno,” and he will be missed sincerely. Peace be upon you brother. Jimmy was born in Titusville, but had resided for the last 35 years in Lawtey. He was proceeded in death by his father, Howard Martin; his mother, Sidney Bell Martin; and stepfather, Elmer “Elmo” Higginbotham.

He is survived by his sister, Elisa Saunders; brother-in-law, Jimmy Saunders; and sister, Gail Thornton.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at Cape Canarval National Cemetery in Titusville.
