Laquasha Carroll

STARKE Laquasha D. Carroll, 33, of Starke died on Friday, Jan. 14, 2022 at her residence. Born in Gainesville she was a lifelong resident of Starke. She was a member of Greater Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church and a graduate of Bradford High School in Starke.

She is survived by her mother, Sheron McCutchen Risby; three children, Chelsie Curtis, Aleece Carroll and Khyrin Holmes; four sisters, TaKeirra Johnson, Latelisha Carroll, Rakia Carroll and Aniya Carroll; and a host of nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins, family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 21 from 6  p.m. until 7 p.m. for friends at the Carl D. Haile Memorial Chapel/Haile Funeral Home Inc., 802 N. Oak St., Starke 904-964-7905 FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED. The Cortege will form at the home of Mrs. Risby at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 6912 N.W. CR 229, Starke, Pleasant Grove.. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Greater Bethlehem Freewill Memorial Garden Cemetery in Starke with Pastor Micheal McDuffie conducting the services. Interment will follow immediately after the services by Haile Funeral Home Inc. Please wear a Face Mask and practice Social Distancing.

Jimmie Clark

STARKE  Jimmie William “Bo” Clark Jr, 62, of Starke passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 at Shands UF in Gainesville. He was born on Sept. 25, 1959 in Bradford County and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Bradford High School and played football for the University of Florida in 1977 and 1978. He was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church and the Lawtey Masonic Lodge. Prior to retirement he worked as an investigator for the Florida Department of Corrections, and, for the last 12 years has worked for Sears in Starke. Preceding him in death were his son, Jason L. Clark; father, Jimmie William Clark Sr., and his sister, Polly LuAnn Clark.

Survivors are his wife of 36 years, Josephine “Jo” Clark of Starke; children, Tisha (Michael) Calderin of Starke, Jimmie W.  (Allyson) Clark III  of Starke; his mother, Linda (McRae) Clark  (Bill) Spivey of Starke; brothers, Clayton Clark of Starke, Johnnie Clark of Starke, and Dane Clark of Hampton. Also left are his grandchildren, Kenneth (Taylor), Morgan, Natalie, and Chason, along with his great grandchild, Shiloh; and many nieces; nephews; and others that knew him as “Uncle Bo.”

The family will receive friends at Madison Street Baptist Church from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Charles Warren and Rev. Richard Cason officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to his beloved Tornado football team through the Tornado Touchdown Club, 620 N. Thompson St., Starke, FL 32091.

Bobbie Harden

Bobbie Harden

Bobbie William Harden passed away on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022. He was born on Aug. 17, 1958 to Charles William Harden and Irma Freida Steiner-Harden in Munich, Germany. He was raised along with his little sister, Peggy Jo in a German village called Schwabhausen. He believed there was no better place on Earth than where he came from and was very proud of his heritage. He had a unique perspective on life as his childhood was different than most. Two families, two languages, and a magical homeland he was blessed to return to throughout his life. He permanently came to the United States in 1969, where he graduated from Union County High School in 1976. He joined the United States Air force in 1977 where he served as a Law Enforcement Specialist. In 1981, he began a 30-year career with the Florida Department of Corrections, where he retired as a Captain in 2011. He was a proud father of three children.
He spent his later years enjoying retirement, and spending time with the love of his life, his granddaughter Kamryn. His greatest joy in life was being a grandfather and he would proudly show off his “KamiKam” to everyone he knew. He was an intelligent, kind, and loving soul, and he will be missed beyond measure. He was proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents, Oskar and Freida Steiner; his Tante (Aunt) Paula Jorg; his brother, Jack Harden; his father, Charles William Harden, and his mother, Irma Freida Steiner-Harden.

In the United States, he is survived by his granddaughter Kamryn Hartley; his three children, Amanda Harden, Joshua Adkins, and Cody Harden; his sister, Peggy Jo (Carley) Broome; his brothers, Donnie Harden, Ronnie Harden, and John (Dawn) Mihalko; and his stepmother, Teri Harden. In Germany, he is survived by his cousins, Christine Weiss, Ralph (Marissa) Weiss, and Andi (Feli) Weiss. 

A service to honor him will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home, Lake Butler. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 12 p.m.

Wayne Kinney

 

Wayne Kinney

STARKE Wayne S. Kinney, 77, of Starke, passed away at his home Monday, Jan. 17, 2022.  He was born Oct. 17, 1944, in Starke to Theron and Carolyn (Redgrave) Kinney.  Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated Kinney Heating and Air for many years.  In 1968, he graduated with his business degree from the University of Florida; he also obtained and currently holds his electrician, air conditioning, plumbing, and building contractor’s licenses from the State of Florida. He was a Christian and loved working; he enjoyed traveling while working for Jim Walter homes, and being with his family.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Christopher Shelton Kinney. 

His survivors are his wife of 44 years, Diann (Thomas) Kinney; and their son, Daniel Kinney, both of Starke; his 95-year-old Aunt Garnita Parker of Miami; Aunt Irene Hutto of Jacksonville; and a first cousin, Sharon Locke of Stuart. He also leaves behind additional cousins and friends that will miss him dearly.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21 at Crosby Lake Cemetery. Internment will follow.  In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation to Dementia Society of America, P.O. Samuel Mackey

Samuel “Joe” Douglas Mackey, Jr., 63, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, passed away on Sunday,  Jan. 9, 2022, at St. Vincent’s Riverside Center for Caring with his loving family by his side. He was born in Jacksonville on June 16, 1958, to the late Samuel Douglas Mackey Sr., and Joyce Ann Kristof Mackey. While attending Terry Parker High School, he worked at CSX until he graduated in 1977. He then pursued a career with JTA as a bus driver. In the mid 1980s, he met the love of his life, Kathryn Johnston, and they were happily married on May 6, 1989. He was a devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, and friend who loved his family dearly. He was an amazing provider; was hardworking and always had more than one job. He was also very family oriented and had a passion about being an active father; teaching and leading his daughters. He coached and umpired his girls for years and even drove their school bus throughout their elementary and middle school years. He was very successful in his career; he drove for JTA from 1985 until 2000, then was a school bus driver for the family business, Mackey Bus Services, from 2001 until 2008. Then he worked at Granger, delivering doors for new constructions for a few years, and finally worked at CSC as a security guard for many local events, concerts, and football games. When not working, he was cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Florida Gators, but WWE was a weekly must as he really enjoyed wrestling. He also enjoyed being outdoors, fishing at the lake, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lois Shortridge.

 He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kathy Mackey of Jacksonville; daughters, Haley Mackey of Jacksonville, and Kimberly (Travis) Duncan of Starke; sister, Debra (Bryan) Pennington of Middleburg; his fur ball grandpups; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Lori Mann

LAKE BUTLER Lori Norman Mann, 59, of Lake Butler passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022. She was born in Starke, to the late Ed and Judy Norman. She  graduated from Bradford High School and began working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She worked as a secretary for them until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her brother, Eddy Norman; 2 nieces; and many great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be truly missed.

A service for Lori will be set at a later date.

Joseph McLoughlin

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS Joseph R. McLoughlin, 75, of Keystone Heights, formerly of South Attleboro, Massachusetts; died  with his family by his side on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Muriel (Travers) McLoughlin; his son Joseph and wife Karen of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, his daughter, Amy and her husband Steven of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; his son, Andrew and his wife Heather of Keystone Heights; and eight grandchildren.

James Powell

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS James “Jim” E. Powell, 74, of Keystone Heights passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, at his home.  He was born on April 2, 1947 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Arthur and Janet (Guild) Powell.  He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a retired real estate broker and contractor. His family settled in Orange Park after his father retired from the Navy.  He grew up in Orange Park where he graduated from Orange Park High School and attended St. Johns Community College. He was a life member of the Jaycees, AMVETS, and the American Legion.   He owned Keystone Realty-Keystone Construction and bought Wards, which later became J & R Overhead, with partner, Robin Griffith.  He was also co-owner of Patsy’s Jym Bar & Grill with his wife, Patsy Ricks.  He loved the water, sailing the St. Johns River, and going to the mountains in Blowing Rock, North Carolina during the summer. 

Jim had 31 years of love and fun with his loving wife, Patsy Ricks of Keystone Heights; daughter, Chanel Powell LeBlanc of Fleming Island and her son Landon Powell LaBlanc; stepson, Brent (LeighAnne) Ricks of Orlando and their son, Gabryel; adopted son, Michael Alayon of Keystone Heights; sisters, Donna (Roger) Wesnitzer  of Casper, Wyoming and Janel (Walter) Hawkins of Ocala.

 There will be a birthday celebration of his life on April 2 at 2 p.m.  at 5943 CR 352, Keystone Heights.

STARKE Julia Ann Walters Ripplinger, 72 of Starke passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville following a brief illness. She was born April 28, 1949, in Lake City to the late Rev. Hugh and Irma (Graham) Walters. She graduated in 1967 from Trenton High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Mississippi College.  Prior to retirement she was employed many years as a schoolteacher with the Bradford County School System. She was a longtime member of Madison Street Baptist Church where she had also played the piano and organ for many years.  Having tea parties with the children always brightened her day, but, most of all, she loved taking her grandchildren on trips to Cades Cove.

She is survived by her loving and much devoted husband of 50 years, Ed Ripplinger of Starke; and their two sons, Michael (Dawn) Ripplinger of Lake Butler and John Ripplinger of Starke. She was also lovingly called “Meme” by her two precious grandchildren, Abigail and Caleb.  Also left behind is her mother-in-law, Lavonda (Ramon) Dix of Providence.  

The family received friends Sunday, Jan. 16, beginning at 2 p.m. at Madison Street Baptist Church with funeral services starting at 3 p.m.  Pastor Richard Cason and Pastor Charles Warren officiated.  Interment followed at Dekle Cemetery in Lake Butler.  A reception was held at Ed’s home Sunday afternoon following the interment.

Lloyd Rosier

 Lloyd Raymond Rosier, 72, of St. Augustine passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, at Flagler Hospital. He was born Jan. 11, 1950 in Dade City to the late Willard and Mildred (Stephens) Rosier and had served in the Florida National Guard. He spent most of his life in West Palm Beach before making St. Augustine his home a few years ago. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and retired as a Senior Commercial Loan Officer for Farm Credit. He was a Baptist and enjoyed reading, tinkering with old cars and trucks; but, most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

His survivors include his loving wife of 21 years, Deborah Kay (Lewis) Rosier of St. Augustine; children, Jeff (Brooke) Chitty of Keystone Heights, Melissa (Hollis) Hines of Starke, Kristen (Tom) Valdez of Ridge Manor, Steven (Chrissy) Rosier of Sumterville, and Kimberly (Jeremy) Swainbank of Oxford; along with his sister, Connie Florer of Zephyrhills. He was lovingly called “Papa” and “Pa” by nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 17, in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel with Pastor Ken Weaver officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the Haven Hospice, 4900 NW 90th Blvd, Gainesville, 32606.

Aubrey Smith

LAKE CITY Aubrey Glen Smith, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Lake City on Thursday,  Jan. 13, 2022. He was born in Chipley to the late Wills and Essie Taylor Smith. He proudly served in the US Navy for 20 years, including a tour in Vietnam. After the military, he began working at the US Post Office as a mail carrier until his retirement. He was also a member of Bible Baptist Church in Starke, the V.F.W. #10082, American Legion and Fleet Reserve Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances Smith; son, Aubrey G. Smith Jr.; brothers, Frank and Thomas Smith; and sister, Doris Hiers.

He is survived by sons, Terry Smith of North Carolina and Jeffery Smith of Lake City; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles and James Smith; sisters, Grave Anderson and Betty O’Brian; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A service to honor him was held on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler. He was laid to rest immediately following the service with military honors at Mt. Zion/Swift Creek Cemetery.

Willie Strong Sr.

STARKE Willie J. Strong Sr. answered his final call for duty on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022. He didn’t need a draft notice like back during the Vietnam War when he was a sharpshooter during his seven years of service in the United States Army. Willie and Paulette spent almost 62 years together. To their union four children were born: Sherry Clark of Jacksonville; Willie (Zanita) Strong Jr. of Lawtey; Vyunda Strong of Lawtey; Kwambea Strong (deceased), formerly of Lawtey; his siblings; Billy (Carroll) Demps, Lugean (Geraldine) Strong, both of Jacksonville; Edward Strong, Starke; Henry Strong, Jacksonville; Charles (Zinner) Strong of Lawtey; grandchildren, Terrance, Marcus (Dawn), Khiana, Ryan (Ashley), Willow, Kwambea J., LaMaria, Kiana, Zach; eight great-grandchildren; cousins; in-laws; and a host of other sorrowing family members.

A graveside Celebration of Life was held Saturday, Jan. 15,  at 2 p.m. at Peetsville Memorial Cemetery Association with Pastor Charles Green officiating.
