Linda Chambers

Linda Chambers, 63, died Feb. 2, 2022, at Riverwood Health and Rehabilitation in Starke. She was born June 21, 1958, in Georgia to the late Leon Jr. and Frances Blanchard Cox. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Donna Stewart; and her brother, Donny Cox.

She is survived by her children, Josh Chambers and Shannon (Austin) Morin of Lake Butler; her grandchildren, Ashlynn and Victoria; and numerous extended family.

A celebration of life was held Wednesday, Feb. 15, at First Baptist Church of Lake Butler.

Margaret Crawford

LAKE BUTLER Margaret Harrell Crawford, 91, of Lake Butler, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 27, 2022. She passed away  peacefully at home surrounded by her girls following a brief illness. She was born on Dec. 31, 1930, in Hazelhurst, Georgia. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, and grandmother. She was a faithful member of Harmony Free Will Baptist Church and active in the ladies auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Kenneth Crawford; and her granddaughter, Daci Griffin Nail.

She is survived by her two daughters, Marcia (David) Griffin of Baxley, Georgia, and Margie (Doug) Coburn of Lake Butler. She was ‘Nanny’ to her grandchildren, K.C. (Jessi), Mary Beth, Hannah (Chris), Kent; and great-grandchildren, Graci, Krissi, Lexi, Rylee, Kenlee, Carter, Kane, Kloe, Case, and Charlee.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 30 at her church, Harmony Free Will Baptist Church.  She was laid to rest at Fort Call Cemetery in Worthington Springs. Rev. Larry Clyatt, Rev. Paul Davis, and Rev. Bob Brown officiated her services.

Sally De Valerio

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS Sally Greene De Valerio, 93, of Keystone Heights passed away on Friday, Jan. 28, 2022.  She was born and adopted in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up in Detroit and New London, Connecticut; she moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1943, Ocala in 1994 and Keystone Heights in 2013.  She married in 1949. She worked as a bookkeeper and volunteered at the Insight for the Blind and Talking Books in Ft. Lauderdale, and at the Marion County Public Library in Ocala.  She was a member of the Park of the Palms Church in Keystone Heights. She was proceeded in death by her parents, James W. and Esther T. Taylor; brother, James P. Taylor; and her husband of 54 years, Joseph F. De Valerio.

She is survived by sons, Michael J. De Valerio of Huntersville, North Carolina, James T. De Valerio of Starke, Peter T. De Valerio of Charleston, South Carolina; daughter Sally E. Laurienzo of Tallahassee; three grandchildren, Justin (Kate) De Valerio of Jacksonville, Kristin (Jeff) De Valerio/Suhey of Houston, Texas, and Kyle (Candice) De Valerio of Sanford, North Carolina; and six great- grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., March 19, at Willey Manor, Park of the Palms, 231 Maranatha Road, Keystone Heights, FL 32656.  There will be an interment at the Florida National Cemetery in Jacksonville on March 21 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wounded Warrior Project or charity of choice.

Teresa Hobbs

Teresa Lynn Hobbs, 61, of Lizella, Georgia (formerly of Starke), passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2022. She was born on Oct. 1, 1960 to the late Johnny Ray Hobbs Sr. and Julie “Dena” (Frohock) Hobbs. Prior to retirement she worked as an administrator for the State of Florida, Department of Law Enforcement. She attended Ingleside Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia. She enjoyed spending time with her niece and nephews, and going to the beach. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Johnny R. Hobbs Jr. and Kathy Hobbs.

Survivors are her sister, Sharon (Jeffrey) Norman of Lizella, Georgia: her niece and nephews, Brooke (Colton) Frazee, Jeff (Kamila) Norman and Sage, Will (Brittany) Hobbs, Peyton and Liam, and Christopher (Sierra) Hobbs and Kairi.

Graveside funeral services were held at Crosby Lake Cemetery on Friday, Feb. 11  with Pastor Rick Norman officiating.

Wendy Hunter

STARKE Wendy Marie Hunter, 37, of Starke, passed away on Feb. 2, 2022 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on July 18, 1984. 

Wendy lived for her children. She loved her family and friends. She also enjoyed helping people, music, and the outdoors. 

She is survived by her children, Triston, Zachary, and Kaitlyn; her siblings, Lee, Shannon and  husband Michael, Shawn and  wife MeMe, and A.J.; and her parents, Al and Melanie. She also leaves behind 10 nieces and nephews, and a grand-nephew. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on  Saturday, Feb. 19, at 455 W. Pratt St., Starke, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., including a memorial service at 2 p.m.

Deane Martin

Deane Martin

Deane W Martin, 79, passed away peacefully to join his savior on Feb. 8, 2022. He was born Aug. 11, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Deane Y. Martin and Marjorie Martin. The family moved to Gainesville in the late 1950s and he graduated from Gainesville High School in 1960. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy from 1961-1964 as a submariner engine man. He retired from the City of Gainesville after 26 years (1965-1991) of firefighting service. He later worked for Syncor-Cardinal Health delivering nuclear medicines to area hospitals. He was a spit-fire of fun and laughter. He had a love of all things food, calendars, weather, and thermostats. He enjoyed painting and woodworking; and could often be found in his workshop “piddling” around. He and his late wife, Karolyn, loved camping and they traveled throughout the Southeast. He also had a very active social life including, AMVETS, American Legion,  Wednesday coffee buddies, senior center, and volunteering at his church. In his relaxing time, he enjoyed reading, SyFy movies, and eating macaroni and cheese! He volunteered at the Keystone United Methodist thrift store, and Keystone and Melrose Senior Center. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife and best friend, Karolyn, in 2020. They would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on Feb. 14.

He is survived by his children Darrin Martin of Gainesville/Ocala, Heather (Scott) Morse of Huntsville, Alabama, Sandy (Dave) Patterson of Keystone Heights, Debbie (Art) Johnson of Keystone Heights;  and brother, Bryant (Helen) Martin  of Gainesville. He has eight grandchildren, Zim Padgett, Andrew Padgett-Cross, Katie Southard, Matthew Padgett, Shane Lancaster, Madalyn Morse, Keegan Morse, Tristan Morse; and four great-grandchildren. Brooke, Kaydance, Adelyn, and Luke.

A memorial service will be held at the Keystone United Methodist Church, 4004 State Road 21, Keystone Heights on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial contribution to AMVETS Post 86, Keystone Heights, FL; American Cancer Society or Keystone United Methodist Church.

Claude Morgan

Claude Nathaniel Morgan passed away on Feb. 7, 2022, at Haven Hospice in Orange Park. He was born July 20, 1934, to Nathaniel and Effie Howard Morgan in Fairbanks. He lived in Fairbanks  until he moved to Lake Butler with his nephew Ernest Stewart. He was a farmer most of his life, but his passion was music. He played guitar and several other stringed instruments. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Eileen Morgan; his five brothers, and four sisters.

He is survived by his two stepchildren, Billy and Barbara Ford; numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held at  on Thursday, Feb. 10, at Fairbanks Cemetery in Fairbanks.

Carl Sievers

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS Carl E. Sievers Jr., 74, of Keystone Heights passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, in Gainesville. He was born May 14, 1947, in Jacksonville to the late Carl E. and Doloras (Biddle) Sievers Sr.  He retired as SMSGT (E-8) from the United States Air Force following 38-plus years of dedicated service.  He was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church, the Melrose Masonic Lodge, and the Keystone Heights Shrine Club.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, and all Gator sports; but most of all, he loved being with his family. 

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Mizell) Sievers of Keystone Heights; their two children, Kevin (Barbara) Sievers of Live Oak and Cindy (Don) Roberts of Hampton; along with a sister, Debbie Sievers of Jacksonville.  He was also lovingly called “Papa” by Ashley, Bailey, Regan, Cayleigh, Lilly, Dalton and Chase.  Also left behind are five great- grandchildren and one on the way. 

The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday, Feb. 16 with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Pastor Scott Stanland officiating. Please omit flowers and make a memorial donation to: Children’s Shriner’s Hospital, Corporate Headquarters, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Mary Torrent

STARKE Mary Poole Torrent, 94, of Starke, formerly of St. Augustine, passed away at her home Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022. She was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Montgomery, Alabama. Prior to retirement, she was a secretary at the General Motors home office. She was a longtime and faithful member of Anastasia Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also loved her Sunday school class, which was known for volunteering in community charity programs. She was preceded in death by her mother Jewel (Ray) Poole; her husband of 73 years, Donald Jackson Torrent; and a sister, Ruth Carnley.

She is survived by her daughter Donna (Gary W.) Teate of Starke; grandchildren, Christian Kornegay, and Michelle (Robert) Walker; great-grandchildren, Zachary Kornegay, Taylor Kornegay, Sophie Kornegay, Benjamin Kornegay, Amber Walker, and Austin Walker. Also left behind are her niece, Linda Carter; and nephew, Michael Carnley.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Feb. 16,  with Pastor Walter West and Pastor Ron Moore officiating. Interment was at Jacksonville Memory Gardens.
