Linda Mae Alvarez

Mrs. Linda Mae (Taylor) Alvarez of Melrose passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023. She was born on Jan. 25, 1941, to the late Fred and Willie (Crawford) Taylor. She grew up in Glen St. Mary and attended Baker County High School. Prior to retirement, she worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield. In her 70s, she volunteered at the Melrose Library. She was unique, vibrant, and friendly, loved laughing and talking to people, was always on the go, and never met a stranger.  A deep love for her family and close friends lived through her lighthearted exterior.  She loved being outside, working in her yard, collecting wildflower seeds and anything alongside the love of her life, Oscar Wayne. She is known for her delicious pound cake, which she would make and give to everyone.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Oscar Wayne Alvarez; and brother, Fred Taylor Jr.

Survivors are daughters: Tammy Alvarez (Fred) Cook of Melrose, and Debra Alvarez Cooper of Dinsmore; and a brother, Edward (Sonya Payton Taylor) Taylor of Okeechobee. Also left are her grandson, Cooper Wiedeman; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Kay Alvarez, Dottie Alvarez, and Dan and Earlene Alvarez of Keystone Heights, Harold Stephens of Youngstown; as well as nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at a later date in Crosby Lake Cemetery.

Mrs. Cynthia “Cindy” Taylor Cruce, 53, of Waverly, Tennessee passed away Monday, July 24, 2023, at her home. She was born Oct. 5, 1969, in Starke. She worked for Meriwether Lewis Electric Co-op as a customer service representative.

Survivors are her husband of 32 years, Marcus F. Cruce of Waverly, Tennessee; her parents, Eugene and Mary Wilkerson Taylor of Lawtey; a son, Hunter (Rachel) Cruce of Waverly, Tennessee; daughters, Courtney (Michael) McMurtry of Palm Coast and Julia (Dustin) Lee of Chapel Hill, Tennessee; a sister, Pamela (Jamie) Whitehead of Lake Butler; and grandchildren, Finn Lee of Chapel Hill, Tennessee and Maxon McMurtry of Palm Coast.

A visitation was held on Thursday, July 27, at Humphreys County Funeral Home in Waverly, Tennessee. A Celebration of Life visitation will be conducted from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, at the Woman’s Club of Starke, 201 N. Walnut St., Starke. Mrs. Cruce’s wishes were to be cremated.

Eloise Moss

Eloise Hines Moss, a beloved homemaker, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at her home in Starke. She was a loving and good person, known to be everyone’s granny. She was born Sept. 7, 1950, and throughout her life, she touched the hearts of many with her warm spirit and kind nature. She had a wide range of interests and hobbies that brought her joy. Whether she was playing on the computer, fishing in the serene lakes of Florida, sewing beautiful creations, or expressing herself through the art of painting, she embraced every moment with passion and enthusiasm. Moreover, she had an immense love for movies. She not only enjoyed watching them, but also collected them as precious treasures. Additionally, one of her greatest joys came from babysitting her beloved grandbabies and cherishing their company. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee and Leila Gore Hines; and her husband, Carlos Moss.

She leaves behind her adoring family, her daughters, Sherry (Ray) Simpson of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Anita (Chris) Rodriguez of Starke; eight grandchildren, Macie Byars, Cody (Liz) Wall, Kayce Jackson, Colton Wall, Christopher Rodriguez, Kenzie Jackson, Corbin Wall, and Channing Rodriguez; and 10 great-grandchildren.

To commemorate her beautiful life, visitation will be held at Archer-Milton Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 3, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location beginning at 3 p.m.

Ina Inez Mott

Graveside services for Ina Inez Stern Mott, 85, of Carriere, Mississippi, who passed away Friday, July 28, 2023, in Carriere, Mississippi were held Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Dedan Cemetery in Brooker. Burial was in Dedan Cemetery under the direction of Archer-Milton Funeral Home with local arrangements under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

She was a native of Starke. She was the church secretary for First Baptist Church of Starke for many years and a member of Brooker Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth K. Mott; parents, Harry Stern and Leona Coleman Stern; and siblings, Donald Stern, Ona Jacobsen, and Roland Stern.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sherra (Jim) Allen; and grandchildren, Andrew Allen and Paige Allen.

Darrell Shadd

Darrell Shadd

Darrell L. Shadd, 66, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was born on Feb. 2, 1957, in his hometown of Lake Butler. He led a remarkable life filled with talent, generosity, and a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew him. After graduating from high school, he embarked on an adventurous journey to Alaska in search of work. Little did he know that this would be the beginning of several memorable years spent exploring the stunning landscapes and forging lifelong connections. His time there allowed him to cultivate his skills as a master carpenter, as well as indulge his love for fishing and hunting. Upon returning home, he opened an upholstery shop, where he tapped into another talent of restoring furnishings. Known for his quick wit and jestful nature, he was a true jokester. He possessed the remarkable ability to lighten any situation with his infectious laughter and lighthearted banter. His selflessness was unparalleled; if he promised to help someone, they could rest assured that he would follow through without fail. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, David and Mae Shadd; maternal grandparents, Dan and Lorena Peeples; and brother Mitchell Shadd.

His passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of those closest to him. He is survived by his loving father, Leslie (Carolyn) Shadd; his mother, Carolyn Peeples Jarrard; his siblings, Bonnie Smith, Jeff (Marsha) Shadd, Lori (Harold) Archer, and Becky (Eddie) Lee; his nieces and nephews: Doug, Davy, Melissa, Michelle, Jason, Joshua, and Daland; and a host of extended family.

Friends and well-wishers are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Archer-Milton Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 3, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, also at Archer-Milton Funeral Home. The service will commence at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jonathan Wright officiating. Following the funeral service, he will be laid to rest at Ft. Call Cemetery.
