Emergency Food and Shelter Program Advertisement

BRADFORD COUNTY

The Bradford County EFSP/FEMA Phase 41 Local Board has been awarded $7,054 in federal funds made available through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

The Bradford County EFSP/FEMA Phase 41 Local Board has been chosen to receive $7,054 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from American Red Cross; Catholic Charities, USA, National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA; The Jewish Federations of North America; The Salvation Army; and, United Way Worldwide. The Local Board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country.

A Local Board made up of representatives of various community agencies will determine how the $7,054 awarded to Bradford County is to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:

1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government,

2) be eligible to receive Federal funds,

3) have an accounting system,

4) practice nondiscrimination,

5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and

6) if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.

Qualifying agencies are urged to apply. Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must contact Mary Broadfoot at United Way of North Central Florida via email at [email protected] for an application. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

City of Starke Chemical Monitoring Public Notice

What happened?

Our water system did not meet the requirements of a drinking water rule. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation.

We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not your drinking water meets health standards.

For community water systems, such as ours, monthly monitoring is required for Total Coliform. Our system is required to take eight distribution samples and three well samples each month. During the February 2023 monitoring period, we only took seven distribution samples and zero well samples. Therefore, we cannot be sure

of the quality of your drinking water at that time.

Additionally, during the 2023 monitoring period, we monitored for Synthetic Organic Contaminants (SOCs). As a large community water system, we should have either taken two sets of Synthetic Organic Contaminants (SOCs) 60 or more days apart, or submitted an application to the Department of Environmental Protection to qualify for reduced SOC monitoring. However, we only took one set of SOCs, and did not submit an application for reduced SOC monitoring. Therefore, we cannot be sure of the quality of your drinking water at that time.

What should I do?

Coliforms are bacteria that are naturally present in the environment and are used as an indicator that other, potentially harmful, waterborne pathogens may be present or that a potential pathway exists through which contamination may enter the drinking water distribution system.

Some people who drink water containing SOCs could become seriously ill. Health effects language for

individual contaminants can be obtained by visiting the EPA website at:

https://www.epa.gov/ground-water-and-drinking-water/table-regulated-drinking-water-contaminants or by contacting us at the number below.

Any customers who are concerned about their exposure to these contaminants can choose alternative

sources of water for ingestion.

What does this mean?

This is not an immediate risk. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately.

What is being done?

Staff is diligently keeping track of sampling requirements and notifying the Public of any deficiencies as they may occur.

For more information, please contact City Management at 904-964-5027 or contact the Department of Environmental Protection, Potable Water Section at 904-256-1700.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

This notice is being sent to you by our water system: City of Starke WIP
