Recent Keystone Heights High School graduate Amber Cunningham was the first recipient of the Cliff Avril Family Foundation Trade School Bound Scholarship, which she received during on May 23 at KHHS.
Cliff Avril, a 2004 Clay High School graduate who played linebacker in the NFL, presented the $,2500 scholarship to Cunningham, who applied, but was unaware that she had been selected as its recipient. She plans to attend the American Academy of Cosmetology.
Avril, who played at Purdue University and was a Pro-Bowl selection and Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks, created the Trade School Bound Scholarship in honor of his late father, Samuel, who migrated from Haiti in the 1980s. His father provided for the family by becoming a welder.
The Cliff Avril Family Foundation also awarded its inaugural $5,000 College Bound Scholarship to Fleming Island High School’s Cyril Boktor.
