Firefighters thanked during 911 ceremony

Lake Region residents lined up to shake the hands of a Clay County Fire Rescue Station 11 crew at the conclusion of a 911 observance ceremony at AMVETS Post 86 in Keystone Heights Sunday morning.

The ceremony included statements from AMVETS leaders Cindy Lee and Bob Beinlich. Also speaking were Mayor Karen Lake, Clay County Commissioner Betsy Condon, Clay School Board Member Tina Bullock and Keystone Heights High School JROTC advisor Richard Hall.

Attendees observed two moments of silence during the ceremony. One at 8:46 a.m. commemorating the moment American Airlines Flight 11 hit the north tower of the World Trade Center.  The second moment of silence was observed at 9:03, the time at which American Airlines flight 175 hit the south tower.
