Union County High School’s Auntrell Ross competed at the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A Track and Field Finals, placing 13th in the long jump at the May 18 event at the University of North Florida.

Ross, the only athlete from Union, Bradford and Keystone Heights high schools to qualify for state, jumped his best distance of 20 feet, 11.75 inches on the third of his four attempts.

The top eight finishers earned medals. Somerset Academy Canyons’ Marlon Simms won the event with a distance of 23-1.75. Hudson’s James Conley earned the last medal with an eighth-place distance of 21-8.75.

Ross, a senior, will be going to West Palm Beach’s Keiser University on an athletic scholarship. He’ll participate in track and field and football.
