Martha Brock

 Martha May Moore Brock, 91, of Starke, passed away at Windsor Health and Rehab on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022.  She was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Sept. 26, 1930 to the late Francis Eugene and Hazel “Mallonax” Moore. She worked as a bookkeeper for Terwilliger Motors and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Starke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur William Brock; daughter, Martha “Anne” Guthrie; and stepdaughters, Ruth Wayne Hodge and Judy Mabrey. 

Survivors include her sons, James Roger (Kathy) Guthrie of Starke and Carlton Thomas (Kristi) Guthrie of Jacksonville Beach; grandchildren, Lynn Guthrie, Ashley Guthrie, James Guthrie, Justin Guthrie, Chad Guthrie, Brandon Guthrie, David Lampman, Robbie Lampman, and Claudia Mabrey; along with several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel with Rev. Rick Jackson officiating.  A visitation will precede the services, beginning at 10 a.m.  Burial will take place at Crosby Lake Cemetery.

Dennis Corbet

Dennis Karl Corbet, 73, of Keystone Heights, passed away at his home on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022. He was born Aug. 9, 1949, in Indiana, Indianapolis to William H. and Verna (Gower) Corbet Jr. He served in the United States National Guard (ARNG 11th) and was a retired salesclerk. He enjoyed guitars, guns, and woodworking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings.

Left behind are his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Pamela; three children, Neil of Tallahassee, Jacob of Gainesville, and William of Jacksonville; along with a sister, Patty Corbet Kobiata of Keystone Heights. He was lovingly call “Grandpa” by four grandchildren.

There are no scheduled services at this time.

Wayne Crews

Wayne Crews, 78, of Hampton died on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

He is survived by his children, Monica (William) Albritton of Hardee County, Teresa (Frank) Yacovoni of Middleburg, Cindy Bishop of Quincy and Craten (Ashley) Crews of Hampton; a brother; three sisters; and 13 grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. at Victory Revival Center Congressional Holiness Church in Starke. Interment will follow at Lawtey Cemetery in Lawtey. Visitation will be held at the church an hour prior to the service.

Mary Dewitt

 It is with great sadness that the DeWitt family announce the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Mary Alice Dewitt. She died unexpectedly at home early morning, Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, at the age of 88. She was born Dec. 5, 1933, in New Smyrna Beach to Beaugard “Buford” and Dorothy (Dresser) Grimes. She moved to Keystone Heights with her husband and two children in 1961. Their third child was born in February 1962. She became a licensed practical nurse at the age of 50 and nursing homes were her calling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Dennis DeWitt, in 2004; their son Terry Dennis DeWitt in 2001; two sisters; and one brother.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Billy Bell of Gainesville; her son, Willie Brett DeWitt of Keystone Heights; along with two brothers, William Grimes of Brunswick, Georgia, and Gary Grimes of New Smyrna Beach. Also left behind are seven grandchildren and four great-grandsons. This time of deep loss reminds us to treasure the moments we have today.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Keystone Heights Cemetery.

Rene Gonzalez

Rene Gonzalez

Rene O. Gonzalez, 77, of Miami passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at Westchester General Hospital in Miami.  He was born in Cuba on Aug. 7, 1945, to the late Otilio and Carmen Gonzalez.  He was raised in Hialeah and graduated from Hialeah High School. He always had a passion for helping others. He had a longtime career at Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreations as a heavy equipment operator. He married his best friend, Molly Gail Reddish, on June 6, 1981, and together they have enjoyed the past 41 years of happy marriage.  He also enjoyed attending Iglesia Bautista Bethel Church in Hialeah where he was a member for 12 years. In his spare time, he assisted Gail in tutoring children and helping to better their future.  He loved children and appreciated the opportunity to visit and serve the needy. He was passionate about the ministry of missionary Carlos Arce, who oversees 54 churches in Venezuela. Through the donations of many, he and his wife packaged and shipped over 3,500 boxes containing clothing, shoes, medicines, food, and other basic needs to the ministry. He was an amazing husband, brother, cousin, friend, and leader who will truly be missed by all who knew him.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Omar Gonzalez.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gail Reddish-Gonazlez, of Miami; aunt, Hortnesia Rodriguez; sisters-in-law, Alice Kenney, Marlene Murwin, and Joeann Johnson, all from Bradford County; many cousins and extended family in the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale areas; along with numerous local cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Life was held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at  Pine Level Baptist Church in Starke,  with Pastor Mark Olge and Pastor Roman Alvarez officiating.  Interment followed at Conner Cemetery in Starke.

James Jenkins

James C. “Pee-Wee” Jenkins, 87, of Starke, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, at Riverwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Starke. He was born in Bryceville and later moved to Starke. He was of the Chritian faith and self-employed in lawn service.

He leaves precious memories to his brothers, John Burch, Donnie Sloan and Gary Burch; favorite nieces, Mary Newby and Brenda Newby; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends; his adopted children, Jimmy Hankerson Sr., Rick Barr, Jimmy Hankerson Jr., Angie Hill, Detra Aaron, James Ellis Sr., and Ashley Hankerson.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m on Saturday, Sept. 24,  at the Oddfellow Cemetery in Starke (Lincoln City) with Rev. John Burch conducting the services. Interment will be under the direction of Haile Funeral Home Inc., 802 N. Oak St. Starke, 32091 904-964-7905. Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 23, in the Carl D. Haile Memorial Chapel/Haile Funeral Home Inc. from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. The Cortege will form at the home of the late Mrs. Cassie B. Marco H. Vizueth Martinez, 52, of Keystone Heights died at his home on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022.

Survivors are his daughter, Brisa Vizueth Enriquez; mother, Maria Martinez; and fiancé, Ana Grimaldo.

The viewing was Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel followed by the Rosary. The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, at St. William Catholic Church. Interment will be at a later date in Mexico.

Wanda Roberts

Wanda Lou (Gilstrap) Roberts, 86, of Lake Butler, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on Feb. 5, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Mark Gilstrap and Mary Margaret (Scritchfield) Laster. The family moved to Florida from California in 1973 to begin work for the Department of Corrections. She attended City College in Gainesville and obtained her AA degree. She worked in health care for several years before taking a job with the Department of Corrections. She worked for 27 years with the DOC until her retirement. During her working career, she was known as a hard worker, dependable, and never complained. Those are traits she learned early on and carried them throughout her life. Her family was everything to her, and she enjoyed being the caretaker, generously giving, even if it meant she went without, and loving unconditionally. She will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bainbridge Colby Roberts; her son, Kenneth L. Holmes; and brother, Jerry Gilstrap.

She is survived by her children, Darrell Steven (Linda) Holmes of Lake Butler, Diana Nichols of Brooker, Karen (Tracy) McQuaig of Ft. White, Mark (Kim) Holmes of Moultrie, Georgia, Tammy (Brad) Macey of Lake Butler, and Terry Stoddard of Lake Butler; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

A visitation with the family was held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home, Lake Butler. She will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m.

Sara Tipton

Sara Estella Tipton, 80, of Starke died at home on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022. She was born in Surgoinsville, Tennessee on Oct. 6, 1941.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Dasher; and sons, Michael Tucker and Jimmy Beasley.

Funeral services were held, Friday, Sept 16 at Hope Baptist Church with Larry Strickland conducting the services.
